In mid-July of this year something extraordinary happened in the world of shipping, Maersk Line carried their first shipment of fresh mangoes from India to the UK. Since then Maersk has moved over 700 40' Refrigerated containers worth of mangoes successfully through 21 sea freight day transit time.
To most people, this may seem insignificant, but if your primary is the import or exportation of perishable foodstuffs then this is big news. Maersk's successful transportation of mangoes, provides a whole new opportunity for importers and exporters.
With Maersk's Remote Container Management (RCM) and Star Controlled Atmosphere systems (Star CA) fresh produce can be in transit for up to 45 days with no degrading effects.
This technology has created a new era where air freight does not have to serve as the primary mode of transport for produce; thus reducing freight considerable and allowing much greater volumes to be carried.
